IVE Empathy Quick Review – AC Chilling

The new comeback by IVE is finally here! After what seems like a long-break for some fans, IVE finally delivers what might be their most interesting EP to date.

This article will cover first impressions of the EP and my thoughts overall on each song.

Ranking of the Songs

Rebel Heart: 9/10 – Reminds me a lot of I AM, extremely uplifting and beautiful song. I think this song gets better the more you listen to it.

Flu: 10/10 – Very bubble-poppy and playful sound, reminds me of Gen 2 songs in a way which really opens up my love for it. It just flows so well, and gets better as it progresses. It’s like if a zero-to-death fighting game combo was a song for those who understand that analogy.

You Wanna Cry: 9/10 – I love the progression on this song, the sample makes it feel nostalgic especially since I listened to the sample back in the day. It’s definitely very soothing and it definitely relaxes you after the hype of the previous two songs. It feels like a movie ending song, which feels strange that it is in the middle of the EP.

Thank U: 8/10 – Feels like a sister to ‘You Wanna Cry’, and honestly listening to them together makes the experience a lot better. In a way, the songs are like twins, but it does somewhat bring the pacing of the album down, which does gracefully prepares for the next title track. If You Wanna Cry is a movie ending song, this would be during the credits.

ATTITUDE: 9.5/10 – What a song, it reminds me a lot of some TWICE songs, most notably ‘SET ME FREE’ and with yet another sample on this album, it puts me into a trance where I can’t believe it’s IVE but I’m also not surprised that it is IVE. MV is wild too.

TKO: 8.5/10 – This song is super fun and it really seems like a fun song for the girls at IVE. It’s like Dynamite by ITZY which I love.

Overall Thoughts

This EP was definitely worth the wait for those who needed something more diverse than IVE SWITCH and the few singles they put out for the past Summer/Fall of 2024. I’d like to think of this album as a painting where the artist time travels to different eras to create a canvas that one can follow somehow so easily.

It’s strong, it’s fun, it’s beautiful, it’s unique, and it’s hot.

I give this album a 9/10. PHENOMENAL WORK.
