Overview
On May 29th, 2024, Yves finally made her solo debut with her new EP LOOP. Let’s dive right in and analyze this 4 song EP to see if it’s worth LOOPING…!
Track 1: DIORAMA
The vocals are very dreamy on this, it feels like a soulful RnB track. When it started, I thought it was going to be a rap track, but honestly I like the reality of it a lot more. Feels a lot older than it actually is, although most of me is saying that her vocals are a little too dreamy to where they are difficult to understand.
Overall though, strong start.

Track 2: LOOP (feat. Lil Cherry)
The beat being both charming and upbeat at the same time makes this song perfect for both Yves and the featured artist, Lil Cherry. Yves’ sweet, dreamy vocals complimented by Lil Cherry’s aggressive (but not over the top) flow. Both of their vocals allow this song to have a balance that keeps it chill, but also gives you a sense of excitement like you’re in the zone getting lots of studying done and you’re proud of yourself.
Not only that, but the song keeps itself simple too. With nothing but “ooh-ooh-ooh” in the post chorus/outro to just let the vibes do the work. Some could say though, that it’s a little too simple and that it feels too generic, which I can feel to an extent. With that being said, however, the song aims to just be pure vibes with both the instrumentals and the vocalists doing every part equally.

Track 3: Afterglow
The instrumental drops on this song are pretty great, I was really excited when it unveiled itself to be a rock/alternative type song. Although the beeping noises were getting a bit bothersome, I feel like I could get used to them.
And although I do love Yves’ voice in general, I wonder if she could have pushed her vocals harder especially during the chorus. I felt she was being a little too soft and maybe it’s because the other songs on the record were soft, but even then I felt like there was a missed opportunity to experiment even further with this song.
7.5/10
The Goldfish
What I find interesting is that this song is fully Korean, while the previous track was fully English (and the first two tracks were mainly English too).
This song is beautiful, Yves’ voice is just so excellent with this near perfect instrumental. So simple, yet so elegant, and the backing vocals at certain parts make it even better. It feels like a dream, are we in a K-Drama?
It’s the perfect length too for these kind of serenade songs, not too short, and not too long for a song without an instrumental solo. I do feel like if Yves projected her voice slightly harder in some parts it would be a 10/10, but that’s just me being nitpicky.
9.5/10
Conclusion
Yves solo debut shows a lot of promise for her as an artist. While she has some things to work on, her potential is damn near limitless. This is especially true in slower, chill songs like ‘Goldfish.’ I hope we see more of her, including as a feature too.
